Ohio Republican U.S. Senate candidate Bernie Moreno will receive as much as $12 million in campaign support from the crypto industry.
Fairshake, a leading political action committee in the crypto industry, announced that it plans to spend significant amounts of money in three U.S. Senate races in Ohio, Arizona, and Michigan to influence the outcome of the election. In the Ohio race, crypto supporter Bernie Moreno will face Democrat Sherrod Brown, chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, who has been consistently reluctant to advance crypto legislation in his committee.

The crypto industry plans to launch its biggest campaign ever against Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), setting aside $12 million to support the Republican candidate for the Senate seat. Sherrod Brown, the current chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, has been highly critical of the digital asset industry and has been reluctant to embrace crypto legislation.
Organizers of the Fairshake Political Action Committee (PAC) and its affiliates said on Tuesday that they were reserving TV AD slots in Ohio and two other key states, Arizona and Michigan. They will reserve $12 million in AD time targeting Ohio to promote Republican candidate Bernie Moreno, a blockchain businessman. They will spend about $3 million each supporting U.S. Rep. Ruben Galego (D-Ariz.) in the Arizona Senate race and U.S. Rep. Eliza Slotkin (D-Mich.) in the Michigan Senate race.
"Our mission is clear - to support candidates who embrace innovation, want to protect American jobs and are committed to working across the aisle to achieve their goals, and to oppose those who don't," Josh Vlasto, a Fairshake spokesman, said in a statement. The group aims to build a "sustainable bipartisan coalition and consensus on the urgent need to pass responsible crypto and blockchain focused regulations."
Crypto political action committee Fairshake claims to have defeated an ally of Elizabeth Warren once again after Bush lost the election. This Senate endorsement comes shortly after Fairshake announced it would support 18 members of the U.S. House of Representatives in November's election. These members are incumbents and have supported the crypto industry during their tenure.
The group's ads as it participated in dozens of contests in the primary - with a few exceptions - did not mention the crypto positions of the candidates it supported or opposed.
Fairshake and its associated political action committees - the Democratic-oriented Protect Progress and the Republican-focused Defend American Jobs - have also poured resources into digital ads specifically targeting crypto users.
Crypto industry PACs are among the largest by dollar amount in the 2024 election, rivaling the in-house funding of other major U.S. industries and political parties. So far, Fairshake has focused on congressional elections and steered clear of the presidential race, carefully balancing support across party lines. Among the elections it has invested in, the $10 million for the Senate race of Rep. Katie Porter (D-Calif.) is the largest amount previously invested in a single race.
