The trustees of defunct cryptocurrency exchange Mt. Gox said Monday that they are preparing to begin distributing Bitcoin (BTC) stolen from customers in a 2014 hacking incident in the first week of July.
Traders believe the Mt. Gox repayment could bring less selling pressure than expected, which could ease fears of an immediate sell-off.
According to Galaxy Research's report, a significant portion of the bitcoins distributed may not be sold immediately, as most creditors will likely choose to hold them due to their low cost base.

Fears of an imminent sell-off
Cryptocurrency traders said the selling pressure from Mt. Gox's latest repayment announcement may be far less severe than market observers had feared, easing fears of an immediate sell-off.
Swan Bitcoin senior analyst Sam Callahan said in an email to CoinDesk on Tuesday that "the impact of Mt. Gox's distribution of bitcoins on bitcoin prices may be overblown." Creditors who want to sell bitcoin now have more than 10 years to sell their bankruptcy claims to more confident, long-term investors."
"In addition, most creditors will likely choose to hold their bitcoins because their cost base is below $700 per bitcoin," he added.
Galactic research perspective
Galaxy Research said in a note on Monday that of the total 141,000 BTC distributed, 65,000 BTC will go to individual creditors and another 30,000 BTC will go to creditor funds and separate bankruptcy proceedings.
"It is reasonable to assume that most of the BTC received by funds that receive claims from creditors will be distributed in kind to limited partners (LPs) rather than sold off," the firm said, allaying market concerns.
Look to the future
While the news of Mt. Gox's cash has unnerved some market watchers, professional traders and analysts are offering more optimistic predictions that the actual market reaction may not be as dramatic. This means that in the crypto space, there is still a huge gap between market psychology and actual supply and demand.
As Mt. Gox's repayment plan is gradually implemented, the market will be watching closely for its actual impact on the price of bitcoin. However, the current analysis points out that the Bitcoin market may be ready to deal with this coming challenge.
