Trump's Official Republican Platform promises to stop cryptocurrency 'crackdown'

Although not listed as a top priority, the Republican National Committee adopted a platform aimed at promoting innovation in digital assets.

Although not listed as a top priority, the Republican National Committee adopted a platform aimed at promoting innovation in digital assets. The Republican National Committee's latest policy platform includes an initiative supporting cryptocurrencies.

The party led by former President Donald Trump has also pledged to oppose central bank digital currencies.

According to documents released by the Republican National Committee on Monday, former President Donald Trump's Republican Party has formally adopted a platform that will support cryptocurrency innovation.

The platform, which aims to spell out the party's priorities as Trump and Republican congressional candidates head into November elections, reflects the growing interest in digital assets by Trump and other Republican politicians.

"The Republican Party will end the Democratic Party's illegal and un-American crackdown on cryptocurrencies and oppose the creation of a central bank digital currency. We will defend the right to mine bitcoin and ensure that every American has the right to manage their own digital assets and transact without government surveillance and control." According to the file.

In recent months, Trump has moved from skepticism of cryptocurrencies to staunch support. He also has some personal experience with digital assets, including the launch of multiple sets of his own branded non-homogeneous tokens (NFTS).

Trump's campaign and associated political action committees also accept cryptocurrency donations.

According to the announcement of the committee's latest platform, it lists 20 top policy "commitments" but does not include the content of cryptocurrencies. However, digital assets are mentioned in the economic section on innovation initiatives.

Opposition to central bank digital currencies (CBDCS) is a hot topic for Trump and other Republicans on the campaign trail in 2024. Some other jurisdictions - including China and Europe - have been chasing the idea of government-backed digital tokens, while the United States has yet to move beyond the research stage.

Republicans have accused Democrats of pushing for a CBDC, which would increase financial surveillance of U.S. citizens. However, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell and other administration officials have insisted that this theoretical digital dollar will be managed by the banking system, not the government. Fed officials also said they would not adopt a CBDC unless approved by Congress and the White House.
